Be sure your costume can be seen after
dark. Wear reflective tape, a light colored costume or
carry a flashlight.
- Make sure your costume is fire-proof, fits properly and
allows you to see where you're going.
- Make sure any props to costumes are smooth and flexible
to prevent injuries in case of accidental falls.
- Do not approach houses where lights have been turned
off.
- Keep away from open fires and candles.
- Trick-or-treaters should stand several feet back from
houses and never go inside a stranger's house.
- Always cross streets at corners and look both ways for
traffic.
- Always travel in groups of 2 or more and whenever
possible be sure to have a responsible adult present.
- If your parents are not trick-or-treating with you, be
sure to give them a route plan in advance. Stick to
that plan.
- Make arrangements to
check in with your parents every hour until your return.
- Walk to the inside of
the sidewalk to create distance between you and parked cars
and vans.
- Do not eat any candy until an adult you trust has
inspected it. Parents throw away all candy that
is not sealed closed.
- Have Fun while being safe.
